Winter Book Give-Away Contest!

It's winter. It's cold. It's snowy. The sky is a dull shade of gray. And in a few short weeks, the holiday cheer will be over. What's a gal or guy to look forward to? Well, I've got just the cure for the winter blues. And it comes in every bright pastel color you can imagine.

It's Em's Sensational Seven Book Contest!

That's right - a contest to win books. And not just one book, but 7 books! One lucky winner will receive the following books, plus a snazzy tote bag from Harper Teen.
1. The Faerie Path by Frewin Jones
2. Princess Mia, The Princess Diaries vol IX by Meg Cabot (*ARC)
3. The Queen Geek Social Club by Laura Preble
4. Queen Geeks in Love by Laura Preble
5. The Redheaded Princess by Ann Rinaldi (*ARC)
6. Audrey, Wait by Robin Benway (*ARC)
7. a mystery book :-)
Here's how to enter. Just leave me a comment and tell me 1) your favorite teen book that you read this year and 2) a teen book that you want to read but don't own. I'll select a winner on December 31st so make sure that the comment has your blog address or a way to contact you. And if you want your name to go in the hat twice, then just spread the news on your blog and leave me a comment or send me an email with the link. emsbookshelf (AT) gmail (DOT) com

And be sure to check back in the next couple of weeks for some new book reviews and also my very first author interview with the lovely Beth Kephart!

*ARC - these books are advance reading copies. This means that they are paperbound proofs that do not usually have the final jacket, formatting, or binding of the finished edition. They may also contain grammatical and spelling errors. But they are still very awesome and not yet available to the public.

Hmm...Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher comes to mind as a favorite teen book for this year. It was a very gripping read, and very well-written.

As for a book I don't own but would like to read: The Faerie Path by Frewin Jones. I've been wanting to read that for some time. :-P

Great contest!

MAKE LEMONADE by Virginia Euwer Wolff was one of the best YA books I read this year. Best verse novel ever!

I am dying to read: POISON APPLES by Linda Archer.

OOHHH!!! I want to join!

Okay let's see:

1. My favorite book: very hard to pick. I think I have thousands of favorites. But if I had to pick one....I'd pick New Moon of the Twilight Series. It's not many people's favorite in the series (because of Edward's absense throughout the book). But it's my favorite because it's kinda sorta sad and I can identify with characters who have to cope with tragedy more than I can the ones that are happy-go-lucky. I also loved it becuase it's irrevocably linked to my other favorite book--Romeo and Juliet. Plus I just love Jake (and werewolves).

2. I would love to read Tantalize by Cynthia Letich Smith because it's about vampires and werewolves set in the coolest place ever: my hometown! (Austin, Texas).

By the way--you said you had the ARC to The Host--you are incredibly lucky! Please tell us if you like it or not ^_^
(Sorry about the immensly long post)

There are so many books I would love to read, and haven't! If I have to pick one it would be Before I Die by Jenny Downham.

2) A teen book that I want to read but don't own. That would be Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen. It doesn't come out for a while, but I love all of her books.

I read Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks, and absolutely loved it. My ex-fiance is in the Army and is going to Afghanistan, and it's been hard. But like the book, you let that person go and find who loves you for you. and it was so well written, how things just tied together. everyone expects so much out of soldiers, but dosen't realize what they have to sacrifice and that they're really emotional deep down.

I am excited to read Sarah Dessen's new book, Lock And Key, just because she is a wonderful author. Her novels have really helped me want to find out who my true friends are. And it's been a rough year for me, my great gram had a stroke, my friend died two years ago, her books just mean so much to me.

This is great.

My favorite teen book for this year was definitely Shannon Hale's Book of a Thousand Days. It was wonderful, lyrical, and the heroine is very admirable.

The book I would like to read is probably Rebel Angels, by Libba Bray. *sigh* I've never gotten around to getting it.

Wow, there were really a ton of books that I read and loved. I would say Harry Potter 7, but how cliche is that? I guess I'll have to say Rainbow Boys...I was a bit late in reading it, but I loved it soo much, including the rest of the series.

A book that I want to read is Boy Toy because it looks amazing and I like the subject matter. A big issue nowadays and it should be interesting to see how the author addresses that in the book.

I guess a way to get ahold of me?

Book of a Thousand Days.

It's one of the very few books I have willingly lost sleep over (being a toddler mommy, sleep is tragically important).

Don't own but am dying to read (strike that, lose sleep over):

Tantalize. It just sounds so...tantalizing!

King Dork was great. I've never been a teen boy, but it was everything I imagine the inside of a teen boy's mind would be like.

I've heard The Lightning Thief is great, and I've been wanting to read that.

wytchchyld said...

1) Since I'm hovering right around ~250 books read in 2007 and most of those are YA, this is difficult for me.

However, with that said, I think that I'm going to have to vote for Beastly by Alex Flinn. I loved the new look at Beauty and the Beast and how Flinn kept a lot of the 'necessary' elements for the story in place while turning it into a modern fairy tale.

2) A teen book that I would like to read but don't own ... The Opposite of Love by Helen Benedict ... I just showed my 9th graders Freedom Writers and I think that many of the kids who were totally enraptured by the movie might be similarly interested in this book, based on what I've heard about it. But I never suggest books to my kids that I haven't read myself!

I can be found on Livejournal under the name Wytchchyld. This is a cool contest! Some of those books would be destined for the school library if I won, but Faerie Path would have to stay and be loved by me.

1) It's hard to pick just one, but I'd say my fave of the year was The Off Season by Catherine Gilbert Murdock. I loved it as much as her first book, Dairy Queen, which is rare and a high compliment - I usually think sequels pale in comparison.

2) Also hard to pick just one! But one I really want to read is The Luxe by Anna Godbersen.

Ooh, I'd like to enter. My favorite teen book this year was The Invention of Hugo Cabret, though I'm reading Thirteen Reasons Why right now, and it's amazing.

One I don't own but want to read: The second book in the T.A. Barron Merlin series. I just finished the first one and really enjoyed it.

Happy holidays to you!

I have read some great books this year, but by far my favorite teen book this year was Freaks by Annette Curtis Klause. That book is high on my re-read list as I really found myself lost in its pages. A teen book that I want to read but have not yet is The Blue Girl by Charles De Lint. I am currently reading his teen book Little (Grrl) Lost and am really enjoying it.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of the holiday and I think this contest is great!

My favorite YA book I read this year was "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. yep, it beats Harry Potter.

And I want to read "Beastly" by Alex Flinn. If that's the one that rises to the surface when a person's read 250 books this year, it must be good.

Dev said...

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher or Twilight by Stephenie Meyer would be tied for my favorite YA book this year.

The books I want to read but haven't yet are A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and The Luxe by Anna Godbersen.

This is very generous of you, Em! I posted about the giveaway at my blog, here.

My favorite teen book I have read this year is "The Outsiders," by S.E. Hinton It was recommended to me by a friend. I couldn't put it down, even up to the sad ending. I liked reading about Ponyboy, Soda Pop, and all the other boys they knew.

A teen book I would like to read but do not own is "Anahita's Woven Riddle" by Meghan Nuttall Sayres. I saw it on the ALA Top Ten Books for 2007 for Young Adults, and it interested me. I like reading about the lives of women in different cultures.

Betrayed by PC Cast and Kristin Cast was something I loved reading. I haven't read much YA and initially felt a bit odd reading it, but now I'm hooked. There's an entire genre I've missed and being the bookworm I am, I can hardly believe it!

What I missed reading? The first book in this series, Marked. Lol. I was hooked before I realized this was part 2.

I've also blogged about your contest on my blog "A Book Blogger's Diary", which is chock-full of book/author related contests and of course, my book reviews. The post about your contest can be found here : Em's Sensational Seven Book Contest

Thanks and have a great New Year!

The book I want but don't have is The Queen Geek Social Club because my friend told me that it was a great book. About a girl called chelbey who has no friends but a robotic machine or something until this new girl comes and shakes things up making life a whole lot interesting.
