Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer Book Review

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
(Hardcover, Hachette)

Rating:

In Eclipse, Bella is torn between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob. A group of vampires is hunting for Bella, and Edward and Jacob are determined to protect her, even if it means forging an unlikely alliance. The other conflict that has been ongoing in the series and continues in Eclipse is Bella's desire to become a vampire and Edward's wish to keep her human. This was probably my least favorite of the three books because I'm not too keen on the love triangle aspect. I mean, Jacob is a great guy but I can't really picture him as anything other than a friend to Bella. I also kept wishing that Bella would become a vampire. I understand Edward's desire to have her not miss out on any human experiences, but geez, if he doesn't change her then she is eventually going to die and he will supposedly commit suicide then. Come on, wouldn't an eternity of being vampires together be way better than getting old and dying or committing suicide? Plus, I've got this idea that Bella's aversion to blood will mean that once she is a vampire she won't want to feast on humans.

Aren't the covers amazing?

My review of Twilight

  1. Yep, the covers are awesome : ) It was actually the cover of Twilight that caught my attention in the first place, I'll admit ; )

Are the stars 2/5 (or maybe 10)? Or do they just stand alone?

  2. I hate to say it but I agree. I still think Twilight is the best of the 3 books-- really kept me wanting to read more. I hated the love triangle between the three of them. I completely agree with you in that I cannot see Jacob as anything more than a friend to Bella. I also think Edward is amazing and kept waiting and waiting for him to turn Bella into a vampire. I am looking forward to the next book, which I understand is the story from Edward's point of view. Good review. If the stars are out of 5, I would probably give it a 3.

  3. Hi Bohae,
Actually, it's 2 out of 4 stars. 2 stars for me means that the book had a few bad moments/passages/characters but was overall a good book. It's one that I'd only recommend to fans of the first two books in the series. 2 stars also means that I probably won't re-read it. Here's a link to my rating system if you want to look at it....

  4. No, I haven't seen Stardust yet. I have a personal rule that I refuse to see any movie without reading the book first if it has book.

  5. That's usually my rule too but a bunch of friends were going to see Stardust and I couldn't resist.

  7. I so love the covers too, especially Breaking Dawn's which is my favourite cover.

The part where Bella almost passed out when Jacob cut himself with the knife was quite suspicious. I thought there must be something more to her. So she's just scared of looking at blood, is it?

Well, at least I enjoyed this more than New Moon! Can't wait to read the next book too. Here is my review of Eclipse.
