The Heart Is Not a Size Book Cover

Beth Kephart has posted the cover for her next book, The Heart Is Not a Size, coming out in March 2010.  Isn't it gorgeous?  I love the hands in the shape of a heart.  And the color scheme is very striking.  The picture of the girls makes me think that this book will deal with issues of loneliness and friendship.  The heart, though, tells me that this story will most certainly capture my imagination and my heart.  I can't wait to read it!

Beth has a beautiful excerpt from the book up on her blog.

  1. Honestly, I'm not a fan. While I like the colors, I think it looks... well, almost old-fashioned. I have seen worse covers before, but I can't say I'm terribly fond of this one.

  3. I have mixed feelings about it. It's very beautiful and I love the hands, I'm just afraid it doesn't look as updated as other YA books out there and will get passed over. I'm interested in reading it though and the cover does intrigue me.

  5. Em, you are a sweetheart. So very interesting, these comments. I can tell you that the making of this cover was a particular struggle, coming up against a number of marketing parameters from the publisher. In the end, this book is about Juarez, about deep issues, about whether or not a group of American teens can make a difference in the world. I think those things are very difficult to capture pictorially, and I appreciate that reactions to the cover will vary, reader to reader. I love the honesty represented here.

  9. At first I fell in love with this cover, but now, yeah, it seems a bit old-fashioned.
